Live show by alternative rock duo Wings of Desire from Stroud at the Hallamshire Hotel, for ages 16+.
Wings of Desire play the Hallamshire Hotel on Wednesday 2 December, their set starting at 19:30. They're an alternative rock duo from Stroud, and this is a proper live show rather than a screening of the Wim Wenders film that shares their name.
They've come up through the UK's underground alternative scene, and their sound sits somewhere between shimmering post-punk textures, cinematic synths and soaring, emotionally charged songwriting. The influences they pull from run from classic new wave to contemporary alternative rock, and they describe the result as something that feels at once nostalgic and fresh. It's a mix of dark romanticism and widescreen production, with lyrics that they say hit straight to the heart.
They're best known for their live performances, a word-of-mouth favourite on the touring circuit who win over crowds with euphoric hooks and on-stage chemistry. The music balances vulnerability with swagger, and that's where the live side of things usually comes into its own. If you've seen them before, you'll know the anthemic atmosphere they build in a room.
