A stage adaptation of the classic BBC sitcom, presented as an Arches Bar Experience, with Les Dennis as canteen manager Stan.
Victoria Wood's Dinnerladies comes to the Oval Hall at Sheffield City Hall on Friday 30 July 2027, starting at 18:30. It's a stage adaptation of the original BBC One sitcom written by and starring Wood, which became one of Britain's most loved comedies for its sharp humour, warmth and the way it captured the life of a Manchester canteen. This is billed as the first piece of Victoria Wood's work to be produced by her estate, and it brings back the original characters: Stan, Bren, Tony, Dolly, Jean, Twinkle, Anita and the rest of the canteen crew. The show is presented as an Arches Bar Experience.
On the cast, Les Dennis is confirmed as the canteen manager Stan, with the rest of the dinnerladies cast to be announced. The original sitcom was set in a Manchester canteen, and the stage version keeps those same characters at the centre of it. If you remember the show, you'll know the sort of thing to expect — the bickering, the canteen gossip, and the particular kind of working-class humour Wood built her reputation on. It's the same world as the TV series, just moved from the screen to the stage.

It's a bit of a milestone for Wood's work, too: as the first production put on by her estate, it's the first time her writing has returned to the stage in this way. The original sitcom ran on BBC One and became a staple of British comedy, so seeing it live is a fair way to revisit it. The show runs at the Oval Hall in Sheffield City Hall, with the curtain going up at 18:30 on Friday 30 July 2027.
