A live tribute production celebrating the sound of a generation with around 40 Motown classics performed live, featuring outstanding musicianship, glittering costumes and dazzling dance routines.
The Magic of Motown comes to Sheffield City Hall on Sunday 1 November, part of a tour marking the show's 20th year. It's a live tribute to the Motown sound, and over the last two decades it's played to more than a million people. The production is billed as one of the biggest success stories in British theatre history and described as 'the biggest Motown party of the year'.
The set is built around the music that defined a generation, with around 40 Motown classics performed back-to-back. The repertoire draws from the label's heavy hitters: Marvin Gaye, Diana Ross, Stevie Wonder, The Temptations, The Supremes, The Four Tops, Martha Reeves, The Jackson 5 and Smokey Robinson. It's a broad sweep of the Motown catalogue, so you'll hear the big ballads alongside the dancefloor numbers. The music is performed live, backed by a full band, and the whole thing is dressed up with glittering costumes and choreographed dance routines. If you're going for the songs, you'll get them, but there's a full stage production around them too.
