A day of heavy underground music with post-metal, sludge and noise acts including Slomatics, The Grey and Pohl, strictly 18+.
Tonehenge takes over Yellow Arch Studios on Saturday 5 December, a full day of heavy underground music that they've billed as 'A Pilgrimage in Sonic Mayhem'. The line-up runs across post-metal, sludge, noise and experimental rock, so it's a long haul of a day rather than a single night.
Slomatics head the bill. They formed in Belfast back in late 2004 and build their material around a sci-fi backdrop, so there's a bit of a conceptual thread to their songs. Joining them are The Grey, an instrumental three-piece signed to Majestic Mountain Records who describe their own music as weighing down like few others, marrying the pummelling feel of Neurosis or Karma To Burn to big themes with striking nuance and colour. Pohl will be there too, having released their debut album Mysteries in 2024 via Wrong Speed Records, and Waheela come from Newcastle as an experimental post-noise act. The rest of the day is filled out by Bilecaster, Mountainscape and Slügfüt.
It's a broad spread of the heavier end of the underground, with the sludge and post-metal leaning on the slow, crushing side of things and the noise and experimental rock pulling it into weirder territory. Because it's a full day, you'll get to hear a fair few of these bands back-to-back rather than just one set and a quick exit.
