Free community arts celebration with two community murals, a mixed-age breaking showcase, shadow puppets, masks and recycled sculptures made by local people of all ages.
This Is Us is a free community arts celebration and exhibition at the Creative Lounge, Showroom Workstation on Sunday 8 November, from 13:30 to 20:00. It's the culmination of a season of community art across North-East Sheffield, where local people of all ages have spent months making work about where they live: the people who've achieved there, those who've moved to the area and made it home, their faiths, heritage and pride in place.
What started as sketches, stories, movement and painted name boards has grown into a few different things that all come together on the day. There are two twinned community murals, painted by Sheffield graffiti and mural artist Leigh Redhead and guest muralist Marcus Method, both drawing on the community's own sketches and stories. Beside them is a sculptural strand of giant willow and paper lanterns, shadow puppets, masks and recycled sculptures, led by community artist Jo Veal with Patrick Amber as co-facilitator. There's also a mixed-age breaking showcase by Industrial Elements, and from 15:30 a shadow-puppet workshop for anyone who wants to get involved.

The whole thing is funded by the NHS South Yorkshire Integrated Care Board, with Voluntary Action Sheffield as a partner. The Creative Lounge holds up to 180 people at any one time, so it's a fair-sized space to house the murals, the sculpture, and the performances all in one go. It's free to attend, though you'll need to book a free ticket on Eventbrite in advance. The day runs from 13:30 to 20:00 at Showroom Workstation, 15 Paternoster Row, Sheffield S1 2BX.
