A nostalgic tribute to yacht rock classics performed by a nine-piece live band and three vocalists, produced by Paul Roberts.
The Yacht Rock Experience comes to the Montgomery Theatre on Saturday 7 November, a nostalgic tribute to the smooth, soulful sound of yacht rock. It's a brand-new production from Paul Roberts, who's also the name behind Queen of the Night and What's Love Got To Do With It?.
On stage, the sound is built around a nine-piece live band and three vocalists, so it's a full ensemble rather than a small group. They'll be working through the yacht rock classics, that particular blend of soft rock and blue-eyed soul that defined the late seventies and early eighties. It's a broad enough genre to pull from a fair few artists, and with twelve people on stage, there's plenty of room for the harmonies and the polished arrangements that the style is known for.
The show runs for about two hours and twenty minutes, including an interval, and is recommended for ages 14 and over. The Sheffield date is one stop on a seven-date tour that takes in Swindon, Malvern, Torquay, Fareham, Brighton, Chatham and Birmingham, so it's a touring production rather than a one-off. If you're familiar with Roberts' other work, you'll recognise the format: a tribute show that leans into the specific sound of a particular era.
