Live string quartet concert of seasonal favourites, from carols to holiday film themes, in a candlelit church.
The Magic of Christmas comes to All Saints Ecclesall Parish Church on Friday 4 December, a string quartet taking over the church for a night of seasonal music. It's a 70-minute set, so it's a relatively short one — you'll be in and out in a bit over an hour, which makes it an easy one to slot into a busy December evening.
The programme pulls from two different directions. On one hand, there are the timeless carols that usually anchor a Christmas concert, the kind of things that feel right at home in a church. On the other, the quartet works through elegant arrangements of holiday film themes, so you'll hear the more cinematic side of the season alongside the traditional. It's all played live by the string quartet, with the music carrying the whole thing.
There's a bit of a mood to the setting, too. The church is dressed in candlelight and festive décor for the night, and the quartet's programme is described as a collection of seasonal favourites. It's a fairly straightforward evening of music, with the string quartet at the centre of it.
