Two-hour creative workshop where children aged 8 to 12 and their parents or carers make a self-care box while exploring periods and growing up.
The Growing Up Self-Care Workshop is coming to Studio ComunitĂ on Thursday 29 October, from 2 pm to 4 pm. It's a two-hour session for children aged 8 to 12 and their parents or carers to explore periods and growing up together through creative activity in a supportive space. The main thing you'll actually make is your own self-care box, which you decorate as you go.
While you're working on the box, the session covers the practical side of things—periods and period products—alongside the emotions that come with growing up and how to navigate those changes with friends. It's designed to be a shared experience, so the conversations happen between the adults and the children in the room rather than as a lecture.
The workshop is a collaboration between Alex Johnson, a Sheffield-based HCPC-registered Art Psychotherapist, and Irise International, a Sheffield charity and global leader in menstrual justice programming. It's held at Alex's own community art studio, Studio ComunitĂ , in Walkley, so it's a local project run by people who live and work in the city. The session is in-person, and tickets are sold as one per parent-child pair.
