Depeche Mode tribute band The Devout play The Cutlers Arms in Sheffield, with a Black Celebration Tour show.
The Devout are playing The Cutlers Arms on Saturday 24 October, bringing their Depeche Mode tribute to Sheffield. It's part of their European Black Celebration tour, a run of shows that nods to the 40th anniversary of the Black Celebration album. The set runs over two and a half hours, built around authentic reproductions of the songs paired with visuals.
The band describes themselves as the best Depeche Mode tribute in the UK, a claim that carries some weight: former Depeche Mode member Alan Wilder has called them just that. The line-up is made up of musicians who work in their own right, too. Reza Udhin has played with Killing Joke, Inertia and Black Volition; Keith Trigwell is from Speak & Spell and Form; and Barclay Quarton is in The Doors Experience. It's a professional outfit rather than a casual cover band, and that comes through in the length of the show and the attention to the original recordings.
Because it's part of the Black Celebration tour, the set leans into that particular era, though the full run of songs will take you well beyond a single album. It's a long night — over two and a half hours — so you'll get a good stretch of the catalogue rather than a condensed highlights reel. The visuals run alongside the music, keeping the focus on the songs.
