Original Dating are running a speed dating night for singles aged 40 to 55 at Manahatta on Wednesday 21 October, from 7:30pm to 9:30pm. It's a face-to-face evening for men and women in their early forties to mid-fifties, so you're meeting people in your own age bracket rather than sorting through a wide range on an app.
The format is the classic speed dating one: women stay at their tables and men move around, with each mini-date lasting about four minutes. There's a short break halfway through to stretch your legs and reset. You'll be handed a Passion Passport™ to jot down your notes on everyone you meet, which is handy when you've gone through a dozen people in one sitting and the names start to blur.
The matching happens the next day. You log in to the Original Dating website and mark each person you met as Yes, No or Friend. By 5pm the matches are calculated, and you can message your Yeses privately. The good thing is that nobody ever sees a No, so there's no awkwardness if you didn't feel a spark.

It's got plush leather seating, neon lights, and floral backdrops, with a private cocktail bar and sun terrace called Soho. Original Dating say they've been running speed dating events across the UK since the activity first came about, so they know how to keep the night moving. Tickets are £22 for men and women, and the whole thing runs from 7:30pm to 9:30pm on Wednesday 21 October.
