Free outdoor session of Peaks of Colour's Soma Sessions, a closing ceremony working with Qi Gong 'Life-Energy Work' to connect with the land's energy.
Poh-Eng San leads Soma Sessions #18: Earthing Energies at Flying Horse Lawn on Sunday 1 November, a session run by Peaks of Colour. It's a closing ceremony, and it works with Qi Gong, an ancient Chinese modality that opens the body's five main energy channels to release stagnant energy — Bin Qi — and connect with your own qi and the qi of the land, Di Qi.
Peaks of Colour is a Peak District-based nature-for-healing club by and for People of Colour only, founded in 2021 by Evie Muir. It runs creative and holistic Walkshops exploring alternative routes to healing and justice, grounded in Black Feminist, abolitionist and nature-allied practice. Soma Sessions are the club's monthly spaces, inviting global majority communities to deepen their connection with themselves, each other and the land, with embodied practices that can help heal from gendered and racialised trauma. The project frames repetition as Black Feminist practice, after Foluke Taylor, and rehearsal as an abolitionist priority, after Ruth Wilson Gilmore.
This particular session, the 18th in the Soma series, is a closing ceremony. Poh-Eng San facilitates the Qi Gong, which is described as 'Life-Energy Work'. The focus is on opening those five main energy channels to clear out Bin Qi — the stagnant energy that can build up — and to tune into both your own qi and the qi of the land, Di Qi. It's a practice that sits at the intersection of the body and the earth, and as a closing ceremony, it marks a particular point in the club's cycle.
