Autumn model railway exhibition by the Sheffield Model Railway Enthusiasts with club layouts, guest exhibitors and modelling demonstrations.
The Sheffield Model Railway Exhibition is back at Birkdale School on Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 October, the latest show from the Sheffield Model Railway Enthusiasts. It's a bit of a shift from their usual spot in the calendar — the club usually runs its exhibition in the spring, but this year they've moved it to the autumn.
There's plenty to look at across the weekend. The room fills with more than 17 layouts in total, including the club's own: Royd Barn, Yorkshire Pit, Foxhole Quarry, Hartley Bank Screens, Tanhurst, Tiptree, Howbrooke (now extended), Menage-Artois, Ripple Road, Colorado Slim Gauge, and the German-themed Engishiental and Spatenbraubrucke. There's also a new OO gauge 'Merry-go-round' layout for kids to have a go on, so it works as a family outing as much as a proper enthusiast's day out. Between the layouts, you'll find modelling tables and demonstrations by club members running throughout the weekend.
A good few traders and guest exhibitors will be there too. Pennine Models specialises in O gauge, and Mount Tabor Models focuses on Continental prototypes, with Grandad's Trains, Hardwick Trains and Walter Deakin also taking up space. If you're into the hobby, it's a decent chance to pick up bits and pieces from several different stalls in one go.
