Two-hour craft workshop to make and decorate a wooden shadow-box shrine marking Samhain, with all materials provided.
The Samhain Shrine Box Workshop is on Wednesday 4 November at The Boston Arms Garden Room in Woodseats, a two-hour session running from 7 pm to 9 pm with doors opening at 6:55 pm. It's a making workshop held around Samhain, and the project is exactly what the title says: you'll be decorating your own wooden shadow-box shrine.
The starting point is the nicho, the traditional decorative shadow box and mini-altar used to honour a saint or remember a loved one. The workshop draws on those, but looks to their modern interpretations, which celebrate the bright, colourful folk art of Latin America. That's the spirit you'll be working with—taking a small wooden box and building something personal and decorative inside it. You don't need any prior experience to join in, and all the materials you'll need are provided on the night, so you can just turn up and get stuck in. If you want to make yours more personal, you're welcome to bring along your own photos or images to incorporate into the piece.
