New party night of bass-driven and experimental club sounds with JPEG, Esmé, Joi L.F and Ol.G at The System.
Puzzle Pieces makes its Sheffield debut at The System on Friday 13 November, a new party launched for the city. It's billed as genre-free, though it keeps its focus on bass-driven and experimental club sounds, and this first edition brings together a few different threads to set the tone.
The main pairing puts Bristol-based JPEG alongside Sheffield favourite Esmé on the decks, with deep techno and jungle filling the gaps between them. It's a bit of a cross-city match, with JPEG coming up from the South West and Esmé playing on home turf, and the two styles — the steady roll of techno and the breakbeat of jungle — sitting comfortably under that same bass-heavy umbrella.
Running the night are Joi L.F and Ol.G, the co-organisers and residents who book-end the whole thing: they'll be playing the open and the close, so they're the ones getting the room moving and seeing it through to the end. With the two of them holding the start and finish, and JPEG and Esmé taking the middle, the night is built around a few distinct sets rather than one long blur.
