Hands-on pottery throwing evening with demonstrations by experts from The Northern Potters Association, with a licensed bar and a buffet.
The Northern Potters Association and its South East branch are running a pottery throwing session at The Pavilion on Saturday 31 October, from 6:00 to 9:00 PM. It's a hands-on evening: you start by watching experts demonstrate how to throw a variety of pots, and then you have a go yourself. There are eight potter's wheels on the night, and you'll work in small groups of three or four, so you're not just standing at the back watching. No experience is required and total beginners are very welcome, so it's as much for someone who's never touched clay as for someone who's dabbled.
There's a bit of a competitive streak to it, too. Awards are handed out for the best, funniest and most bizarre pots thrown, so it's not all about getting it perfect. And nothing goes to waste — the clay is recycled for future use. You'll be given an apron to wear, so you don't have to worry about your clothes, and a free welcome drink is served on entry. A buffet runs throughout the evening and a fully licensed bar is open, which should keep you going while you're working through the pots.

All ticket proceeds go to Age UK Sheffield, so the night does a bit more than just get you a pot to take home. It's held at The Pavilion on Middlewood Road in Hillsborough (S6 4HD), right in Hillsborough Park. Tickets are £45, and the whole thing runs from 6:00 to 9:00 PM on Saturday 31 October.
