One-off specialist workshop at Silver Psaltpot to make delicate, contemporary porcelain Christmas decorations that can be hung on a tree or used as table decorations.
Silver Psaltpot is running a porcelain Christmas tree decorations workshop on Wednesday 4 November, from 6 pm to 9 pm. It's one of their one-off specialist sessions, the kind they slot in alongside their regular jewellery making classes.
The evening is about making delicate, contemporary Christmas decorations from porcelain. The thing about porcelain is that once it's fired, it becomes almost transparent in places and lets light shine through, which is exactly what you want for something that's going to be hanging on a tree. You'll learn how to handle the clay, roll it out, apply textures and cut out your own shapes, so you're not just following a template — you're actually making them.
And they don't have to stay on the tree, either. They work as handmade additions to the table for place settings, as present tags, or as a keepsake for a baby's first Christmas. If you're not into the festive side of things, they're still just small, translucent porcelain pieces you've made yourself.

It's worth keeping in mind where this fits into the bigger picture at the studio. Silver Psaltpot runs jewellery making classes throughout the morning, afternoon and evening, structured in six blocks across the year. This workshop is a separate, one-off thing, which makes it a good way to get a feel for the craft before committing to a full block. They also sell gift vouchers for their classes and workshops if you're thinking of someone else. The session runs from 6 pm to 9 pm on Wednesday 4 November at Silver Psaltpot, 3 Brincliffe Crescent, Sheffield S11 9AW.
