Poetry session from the University of Sheffield's Festival of Words, 'Off the Shelf', with Helen Mort and Katharine Towers at the Millennium Gallery.
Helen Mort and Katharine Towers are appearing together at the Millennium Gallery on Wednesday 21 October, as part of Off the Shelf, the University of Sheffield's festival of words. It's a poetry session with the two poets sharing the bill, and if you're not familiar with the festival, the full programme is over at offtheshelf.org.uk.
The evening takes place at the Millennium Gallery on Arundel Gate, which brings art and design into the city centre. Its collection displays celebrate Sheffield's metalworking prowess alongside the art and artefacts brought here by the artist and writer John Ruskin (1819-1900). The gallery is home to the Guild of St George's Ruskin Collection, established in the 1800s to inspire the people of Sheffield, and to the Sheffield Metalwork Collection, one of the finest in the world, with more than 800 examples of the cutlery, flatware and tableware that made the city famous. If you're arriving early, Ambulo, the gallery's café, serves coffee and grilled cheese sandwiches.
