Talk by Kate Evans on her graphic biography of Jane Austen, part of the Off the Shelf: Festival of Words.
Kate Evans is at the Millennium Gallery on Thursday 22 October, talking about Patchwork: A Graphic Biography of Jane Austen. It's a session that sits within Off the Shelf, the University of Sheffield's festival that brings writers, historians and artists together in conversation, so it's one of several events running across the city during the festival.
If you're not familiar with the book, Patchwork is a graphic biography of Jane Austen. Evans will be talking through it, and as a graphic biography, it tells Austen's life through illustration as much as text, so it's a different way of looking at a writer whose life is usually told in prose. It's a good fit for the festival's focus on conversation between different ways of working — in this case, the visual and the literary.
As part of Off the Shelf, the session is one of many that the University of Sheffield puts on throughout the city, bringing together people from across the arts and humanities. The festival usually runs across several venues, so if you're in the mood for more, there's usually plenty else to pick from around the same time.
