New Year's Eve party with live 2-Tone and Ska from Handsome Dan & The Mavericks, with a selection of drinks and a snow machine.
Handsome Dan & The Mavericks are playing Gorilla Beer Hall on Thursday 31 December, taking the New Year's Eve slot. It's a long one, too — the night runs right through to Friday 1 January, so it'll take you well past the midnight countdown.
The whole evening is built around 2-Tone and Ska. The organisers describe it as infectious 2-Tone, classic Ska and floor-filling hits played live and loud, and that's the core of what they're promising. If you know your way around those styles, you'll have a good idea of what to expect: the upbeat, danceable sound of the 2-Tone era and the classic Ska that came before it, all played by a live band rather than a DJ. It's the kind of music that works best when it's loud and there's a dancefloor to match.
Beyond the music, they've got a selection of drinks on the go and a snow machine to round off the night. The snow machine is a bit of a New Year's Eve touch, and the drinks mean you can settle in for the long haul. Between the live set and the midnight transition, it's set up as a full night out rather than just a quick gig.
