A technology summit bringing together founders, investors and tech leaders from across the North, themed 'collaborate to compete'.
TECH SY's Northern Tech Summit takes over the Crucible Theatre on 21 and 22 October, bringing together founders, investors and tech leaders from across the North. The theme this year is 'collaborate to compete', and the whole thing is about strengthening the connections across the North's tech ecosystem and showing the scale of the region's startups and scaleups. It's run by TECH SY, an initiative from Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council and funded by the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority.
Leading the programme is Yoram Wijngaarde, founder and CEO of Dealroom, who'll be the keynote speaker. He's a good one to hear from: he left investment banking in London and New York to launch Dealroom in 2013, a global data intelligence platform that tracks high-growth companies and venture capital ecosystems. The company raised $7 million earlier this year, and its data puts the North's tech ecosystem at around £82 billion. Dealroom also named Sheffield and South Yorkshire the number one UK region for 'Rising Stars', with the South Yorkshire ecosystem valued at £4.3 billion after fourfold growth since 2019.
There's more to it than just the two days at the Crucible, too. The summit is wrapped in a three-day fringe programme run by official partner Sheffield Innovation Spine, which spreads across the city's 190-acre urban innovation district. So if you're around for the main event, there's a fair bit more to get stuck into across the city.
