A weekend of chamber music from the frozen north, opening with a panel of musicians and experts and featuring the EngegÄrd Quartet, the Phaedra Ensemble and the Brodsky String Quartet.
Northern Lights is taking over The Crucible (Crucible Playhouse) in Sheffield for a weekend of Nordic music from Friday 27 to Sunday 29 November 2026. It's billed as 'a sweeping weekend of elemental music from the frozen north', and the whole thing is built around the composers and music of Scandinavia and the North Atlantic.
The weekend opens on Friday 27 November with a panel of musicians and experts who'll be setting the scene for the days to follow. They'll be talking through the composers and the music that feature across the rest of the programme, so if you're not sure where to start, that's the one to catch first.
From there, the music takes over. The line-up brings together three very different ensembles: Norway's EngegÄrd Quartet, the Phaedra Ensemble, who specialise in contemporary Icelandic music, and the Brodsky String Quartet performing with pianist Martin Roscoe. It's a mix of chamber music and contemporary Nordic voices, with the weekend running from Friday 27 through to Sunday 29 November at the Crucible.

If you're planning to come, keep in mind it's a three-day stretch rather than a single night, so you can pick and choose the sessions that suit you best. The panel on Friday is the starting point, and the concerts follow on from there.
