Weekly Wednesday folk club session at the Nether Edge Bowling Club with floor spots and a set by folk duo Nancy Kerr and James Fagan.
Nancy Kerr and James Fagan are playing Nether Edge Folk Club on Wednesday 4 November, from 7:30pm to 10:00pm. It's a local one, too — they both live here in Sheffield, so this is a home-city gig rather than a stop on a tour. The night is part of the club's weekly sessions at the Nether Edge Bowling Club, 8 Nether Edge Road, S7 1RU, which run every Wednesday.
If you've not been before, the format is a folk club classic: the evening usually opens with a few floor spots — local singers and players taking a turn — before the guest artist takes over for the main set. So if you're early, you'll get a bit of the local scene as a warm-up before Kerr and Fagan step up.
They're one of the best-known duos on the folk scene, twice winners of the 'best duo' award at the BBC Folk Awards and members of the Melrose Quartet. Both are singers, songwriters and multi-instrumentalists, and they're known as much for their stage presence as for their playing. Between the two of them, there's a fair amount of ground covered: songwriting, singing and a good few instruments in the mix.
