Mariam, former half of the Malian duo Amadou & Mariam, returns to the road with her longtime musicians to play their hits and songs from her new album.
Mariam plays The Octagon Centre on Thursday 5 November, her first Sheffield date since the death of her partner Amadou Bagayoko. She'll be on stage with her longtime musicians, and DJ Kalinka (Bombotropics) opens the night.
Amadou & Mariam were a Malian duo who built their following at home from the late eighties before winning recognition worldwide. They met in the orchestra of The Institute For The Young Blind in Bamako and were married for more than 25 years, their fusion of pop, blues and Malian music drawing fans and stellar collaborators. The partnership ended when Amadou died on 4 April 2025, after forty-five years of music together.
Mariam returns to the road with her faithful musicians, blending Malian traditions with infectious rhythms, warmth and optimism. The set pairs the melodies that made the couple a success with songs from L'Amour à la folie, a new album celebrating love, resilience and enduring connection. It's a night that looks back at the duo's shared history while introducing the material she's been working on since.
