Concert by shanty-punk folk band Man The Lifeboats, on their 'The Impromptu Ceilidh Incident Tour', at The Greystones.
Man The Lifeboats play The Greystones on Sunday 6 December, part of their Impromptu Ceilidh Incident Tour. It's a Sunday night gig, so you've got the whole of Monday to recover from it.
They started out in a shanty-punk folk mosh pit back in 2016, taking their cues from Skinny Lister and Holy Moly & the Crackers. Since then, they've played over 180 gigs across the festival circuit, building a name for raucous, ramshackle indie folk. The comparisons usually land in the same neighbourhood: Bellowhead, the Waterboys, Oysterband, the Levellers and the Pogues. It's that particular strain of folk that's more about the energy and the room than the quiet corners.
Their second album, Soul Of Albion, was recorded at Rockfield Studios and hit number 27 in the Official Folk Charts in 2022. The band describes their sound as music "for those who like a drink with their tunes," which pretty much sums up the whole thing — folk with a bit of a row behind it.
