Three-hour beginner's workshop to design and make your own quilted Christmas stocking using a 'stitch and flip' technique, with all materials provided.
If you've been meaning to get your Christmas prep sorted early, there's a Make your own Quilted Christmas Stocking workshop running on Carver Street in the city centre. It's a three-hour session where you'll learn a 'stitch and flip' technique to design and make your own quilted stocking—the kind of thing that can last year after year, rather than something you'll bin after one season.
One of the best bits is that you don't need to be a pro to join in. If you're new to using a sewing machine or just feeling a bit shaky with one, there's a complimentary 30-minute introductory lesson offered just before the main class. It's a nice way to get your bearings and feel comfortable before the proper making starts, so you're not spending the first half hour worrying about the machine while everyone else is away.
They've got the practical side covered, too. All the materials and tools are provided, so you don't need to turn up with your own kit—just yourself. There are hot drinks and light refreshments on hand throughout, which is always a welcome addition when you're spending a few hours focused on a project.

The main session runs from 10:30am to 1:30pm, with that optional beginner's intro starting at 10am. It's not just a one-off, either: the first date is Saturday 14 November, but it's also offered on Saturday 21 November and Saturday 12 December, all at the same times. That gives you a few options to fit it around your schedule, and plenty of time to get it finished well before the big day. Tickets are ÂŁ45 plus Eventbrite fees, and you'll walk away with a stocking you actually made yourself.
