Free lunchtime talk at Weston Park Museum about the confectioners of Sheffield General Cemetery.
Weston Park Museum is hosting a lunchtime talk on Tuesday 1 December called Sweet Remembrance - Confectioners of Sheffield General Cemetery. It's a local history session that looks at the confectioners buried in the General Cemetery, so if you've got a soft spot for the city's old trades, this one's right up your street.
The talk is part of the museum's wider Sheffield Life & Times programme, which runs alongside its permanent galleries. If you've never spent much time inside, it's a good excuse to wander through. You'll find Picturing Sheffield, with local art by Andy Cropper, Stanley Royle and Joe Scarborough, and Ancient Egypt, Beneath Your Feet, What On Earth and Sheffield Stories. The museum's most famous residents are also there: Spike the Woolly Rhino and Snowy the Polar Bear. There's the Ambulo café for a coffee before or after, too.
Weston Park Museum opened in 1875 on Western Bank, so it's been a Sheffield landmark for nearly 150 years. It runs a regular programme of temporary exhibitions and events for all ages, and it's open Tuesday to Saturday 10am-5pm and Sunday 11am-4pm, closed Mondays including Bank Holidays. The talk falls on a Tuesday, so you can easily pair it with a proper look around the galleries.
