Introduction to linocut printmaking with printmaker James Green, where you learn to cut lino and pull a one-colour print to take home.
James Green is running a linocut printing workshop at the Millennium Gallery on Saturday 7 November, from 10:30am to 4pm. It's a full day's session, and you'll walk away with your own print.
Green is a Sheffield artist and printmaker who works in linocut and screen-print. His subject matter runs from landscapes and wildlife to surreal donkey compositions, and he's a familiar name at the gallery: in 2023 he had a major print retrospective here called Donkey Nonsense. He's back at the venue now as co-curator of New Editions: Contemporary Printmaking, the group print exhibition he's put together alongside Kid Acne, which runs from 12 September to 24 December. This workshop is part of the programme that goes alongside the show, so it's a good way to get a bit closer to the kind of work on the walls.
Over the course of the day, you'll learn how to compose an image, cut the lino safely, and pull a one-colour 10 x 15cm print to take home. All the materials are included, and you don't need any previous experience to join in. Places are limited, so it's worth getting your name in sooner rather than later.
