Free over-18s launch of the Sheffield Women and Girls Safety Charter, the council's call to action to tackle gender inequality and improve women's and girls' safety.
Sheffield's Women & Girls Safety Charter gets its launch event at ODEON Luxe Sheffield on Tuesday 10 November, from 2:00 to 4:00pm. It's a free session, and doors open at 1:30pm, so there's plenty of time to get settled before it kicks off.
The Charter itself is the council's call to action for organisations, businesses, venues and individuals to tackle gender inequality and help make Sheffield a fairer, safer and more inclusive city. It lays out practical steps for improving women's and girls' safety in workplaces, premises and venues, and includes training and resources to back them up. It's part of a wider council initiative to tackle violence against women and girls, rather than a standalone project.
This 2026 version was updated following consultation with local women, including students, women's groups and survivors of sexual harassment and abuse, and draws on good practice from other cities like London and Bristol. The launch also highlights 'Businesses Against Abuse', a new South Yorkshire Police initiative starting this year, so the session touches on work coming from both the council and the police.
