Kinusaiga workshop, the Japanese art of painting pictures on fabric and mounting them on wood, with upcycled fabric scraps.
Kinusaiga Mother Nature is coming to Heeley City Farm on Sunday 15 November, starting at 12:00. The session is built around Kinusaiga, the Japanese art of creating fabric pictures on wooden boards, and it's run as a slow, tactile craft rather than a fast-paced class.
If you've never come across it, the process is straightforward: you paint with fabric instead of paint, and there's no sewing involved. The organiser describes it as a 'cosy fabric jigsaw puzzle' and a soothing activity for a neurodivergent mind. One of the best things about it is that you can't really make any major mistakes, and you don't have to be creative to produce a picture — you just work your way through it.
It's also a bit of an upcycling thing: everyone coming along is invited to bring their own fabric scraps to use. Wood frames to mount your finished work are included, so you'll leave with something ready to hang on the wall. The whole thing is set up as a slow, hands-on afternoon, which fits the farm setting well.
