Evening workshop with master florist Emma McGeehan to hand-craft a fresh Christmas door wreath from locally sourced foliage.
Emma McGeehan is leading a festive wreath-making workshop at Kelham Island Museum on Thursday 19 November, from 6:30pm to 9:00pm. It's part of the Kelham Makes series, the museum's popular evening of wreath-making, and it's a chance to put together your own fresh Christmas door wreath using traditional floristry techniques.
McGeehan is a master florist and the proprietor of Orchis Floral Design, and she'll be guiding you through the process. The wreaths are hand-crafted from biodegradable, locally sourced foliage, and because they're made by hand, no two turn out the same. You'll leave with something you've actually made yourself rather than something bought off a shelf.
The setting is a big part of the evening. Kelham Island Museum celebrates 300 years of Sheffield making history, taking you back through the Industrial Revolution and the Victorian era to the city's steel-making heritage. Among the things you'll see around the museum is the River Don Engine, a 425-ton 12,000hp steam engine, and the Hawley Tool Collection, which Ken Hawley has been building since the mid-1950s. There's also the 1916 House and the Sheffield Simplex cars, which The Times hailed in 1913 as the 'highest point to which motor design has yet attained'.
