A free-entry club night featuring chunky house, disco house and soulful cuts at Grub Records, with Adam Courtnall and other selectors.
House & Swagger is back at Grub Records on Friday 16 October, from 19:00 until 00:30. It's a free-entry club night built around chunky house, funky grooves and disco attitude, staged at Grub as an independent night focused on good DJs, great records and proper dancefloor music. The whole thing draws on house, disco, funk and underground club culture, and it refuses to stick to one sound, moving instead through rare groove, disco-soaked cuts, soulful vocal house and jackin' club tracks.
The night is framed around selectors rather than DJs locked into tight genre boxes, and the musical journey runs from early grooves through disco and deeper funk into house. The line-up for this one brings together Adam Courtnall, Muz.dj1, paigeypro_dj and Dee, who'll be playing a rare groove set. It's a long stretch of music that lets the night breathe, starting with the slower, funkier stuff and building up to the house as the evening goes on.
Sheffield-based DJ Adam Courtnall is one of the names behind the night, and this sees him back on the decks after a break of around two decades. His influences run from Dave Lee and David Penn to Mike Dunn, Riva Starr, Demuir, CASSIMM, Angelo Ferreri and the Masters At Work school, and you can hear that range in the way the night is put together, from the disco-soaked cuts to the jackin' club tracks.
