Free guided walk led by experts from the Sorby Natural History Society to identify fungi along the Limb Brook.
Fungi Identification along the Limb Brook is a free guided walk on Saturday 7 November, led by experts from the Sorby Natural History Society. It runs from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm, and the meeting point is The Shelter Cafe, near the Whirlow Brook Park toilets and Whirlow Brook Hall. From there, you'll head out onto the Limb Brook Trail in Sheffield.
The whole point is to spot and identify fungi along the brook. It's not a lecture; you're out on the trail, stopping when something catches the eye and getting the lowdown from the Sorby people. If you've ever spent a walk wondering what that strange orange shelf on a tree is, or why some mushrooms look like little white umbrellas and others like weird, waxy cups, this is exactly the kind of morning that clears it up. The Sorby Natural History Society has been around for a long time, so the walk is led by people who know their stuff, rather than just someone with a field guide in their hand.
November is prime time for this sort of thing. The autumn dampness brings out the fungi, and the Limb Brook Trail gives you a good stretch of woodland and water to work with. It's a two-hour window, so there's plenty of time to wander and ask questions without it becoming a full-day commitment. You don't need to know anything about mycology to join inโthe whole idea is that the experts do the identifying for you.

It's free, so you just need to turn up at The Shelter Cafe by 10:30 am on Saturday 7 November. The walk runs until 12:30 pm, and since it's outdoors in November, you'll want to come prepared for the weather.
