Printmaking workshop combining collagraph and intaglio printing techniques at Carousel Print Studio.
Carousel Print Studio is hosting a Collagraph with Intaglio Printing workshop on Saturday 5 December, over in Exchange Place Studios in the city centre. It's a one-day session that brings together two different printmaking methods in a single go, so you'll be working across both collagraph and intaglio techniques rather than just one or the other.
If you're not familiar with the terms, a collagraph is basically a print made from a plate you build up with materials — things like glue, fabric, or textured paper — which creates a relief surface. Intaglio is the opposite: it's a process where the ink sits in the recessed lines of the plate. Combining them lets you play with both, building up textures and cutting back into them, so you end up with a print that has a bit more depth and variety than you'd get from either on its own. You'll spend the day working through both, from building your plate to pulling the final prints.
It's held at Carousel Print Studio, which is part of Exchange Place Studios in Sheffield City Centre. The studio is a proper print space, so you'll be working with the right gear rather than just a kitchen table and a rolling pin. If you've never tried printmaking before, this is a good way to get a handle on two different approaches in one session, and if you have, it's a chance to see how they work together.
