Six weekly DIY clowning workshops with games, improvisation and craft, led by Miriam of Carbonara and Tom of Yo Dynamo.
Clown College kicks off at The Lughole on Wednesday 13 January, the first of six weekly workshops running every Wednesday from 7 to 9pm. It's not a one-off night, but a course that carries through to mid-February, with sessions on the 20th and 27th of January, then the 3rd, 10th and 17th of February. Doors open at 6:45pm each time.
The course is run by Trubble Productions, a new venture spinning out of the Sheffield DIY space Hatch. They frame clowning not as a set of acrobatic skills, but as a way of relating to yourself, to other people and to the world around you. It's set up as a DIY, community-focused space that builds confidence through collective experimentation, with games, improvisation and craft activities rather than formal drills. No previous experience is needed — just a willingness to be curious, supportive and a little bit silly.
Leading the sessions are Miriam and Tom. Miriam is a performer and theatre maker with seven years' experience in drag, cabaret, pantomime and immersive work, and a member of the chaos drag troupe Carbonara. Tom is a teacher who's been wearing masks for as long as he can remember and clowning in primary classrooms for almost twenty years. The two have worked together before on the Hatch Pantomime, Slaughterhouse Live! and several Carbonara and Scarborough & Foolish sketches.
