Biennial classical music festival with chamber music, choirs and orchestras across music halls and public spaces in Sheffield, headlined by the Westside Singers.
Classical Weekend returns to Sheffield from 12 to 14 March 2027, a biennial festival that brings chamber musicians, choirs and orchestras into music halls and public spaces across the city. It's a broad one, with classical music staged in many forms and spread across different kinds of venues rather than being tucked away in a single concert hall.
One of the confirmed acts this time around is Westside Singers, who'll be performing at the Sheffield Winter Gardens in the city centre. They describe it as their fourth appearance at the festival, and they've picked the Winter Gardens as a less formal setting where passers-by can stop and listen on their way through, rather than having to commit to a seated concert. It's a choir in a public space, so you can just drift in and hear them without any fuss.
There's a practical side to the choice of venue, too: the choir sees it as a chance for people to hear them and decide if they might like to join. If you've ever wondered what it's like to sing in a group but weren't sure about taking the plunge, this is a low-pressure way to get a feel for it. You can stand and listen for a bit, and if it clicks, you know where to find them.
