Charity Hub session on the King's Award for Voluntary Service and funding opportunities, with a networking lunch for charities and social enterprises.
Electric Works is hosting a Charity Hub session on Wednesday 21 October, from 9:30am to 12:45pm, focused on the King's Award for Voluntary Service and funding opportunities. It's part of the Charity Hub series, which brings together charity leaders, volunteers and community group organisers to talk through what the award is, how to apply for it and what funding is out there. The morning is aimed at charities, social enterprises and public sector organisations, and it's supported by Business Sheffield.
The King's Award for Voluntary Service is the highest award given to local volunteer groups across the UK, described as the equivalent of an MBE for a group. If you're running a community project or a local charity, it's a good place to start if you've never looked into it before. The session is designed to walk you through the whole thing: what the award actually entails, the practical side of how to put in an application, and the funding opportunities that come along with it. There's also a networking lunch, so you can catch up with other people working in Sheffield's voluntary and social enterprise sectors.
The line-up for the morning brings together a few different perspectives on the award and the funding side of things. Professor Dame Hilary Chapman DBE, Lord-Lieutenant of South Yorkshire, will be there, alongside Janet Wheatley, Deputy Lieutenant of South Yorkshire and Lead Assessor for the King's Award, who can speak to how the applications are actually judged. On the funding front, Naomi Sampson, Investment Manager at Key Fund Investments, and Julie Banham, Trustee of the Sheffield Church Burgesses Trust, will be on hand to talk through the financial side. Between them, you've got the people who oversee the award and the people who deal with the funding.
