Community ceilidh for all ages fronted by The Rhythm Chaps, a band mixing folk, blues and world music.
The Rhythm Chaps are taking over St Aidan's Church Hall in Oxspring on Saturday 14 November for a community ceilidh. It's a village hall on the edge of the city, so it's a bit of a trek out of the centre, but that's part of the draw if you're in the mood for a proper night of dancing rather than a city-centre gig.
The night is billed as 'a community Ceilidh for Everyone', and they mean it. It's open to all ages, so it's as much for families as it is for anyone who just wants to get out and move. The only rule is that under-18s need to be accompanied by an adult, which keeps it a family-friendly affair.
At the front of the room are The Rhythm Chaps, a band whose repertoire pulls from folk, blues and world music. That mix is exactly what you want for a ceilidh: folk for the traditional side of things, blues for the groove, and world music to keep it from feeling like it's stuck in one place. It's the kind of set that works for a room full of people dancing, where the energy comes as much from the floor as it does from the stage.
