Book launch of Wyrd TV by Dr Diane A. Rodgers, with a conversation with Professor Helen Wheatley and a book signing at Sidney & Matilda.
Dr Diane A. Rodgers is launching her new book, Wyrd TV: Folklore, Folk Horror and British Television, at Sidney & Matilda on Sunday 6 December. It's a conversation between Rodgers and Professor Helen Wheatley, and the whole thing is presented by WYRD TV in association with Sensoria Festival.
If the title sounds a bit niche, the actual list of shows it covers might be more familiar than you think. Rodgers looks at folklore and the weird, wonderful side of British television from the 1970s and 80s, and how those things still shape popular culture. The conversation will touch on Bagpuss, The Changes, Children of the Stones, Nigel Kneale's Beasts, Quatermass and The Stone Tape, and Ghost Stories for Christmas—so it's as much about the cosy, nostalgic side of the BBC as it is about the folk horror that's become such a talking point lately.

It's a seated session in the gallery room, and there's a book-signing opportunity afterwards, with copies provided by La Biblioteka. The talk runs from 14:00 to 17:00, so it's a Sunday afternoon thing rather than a night out. Tickets are £6.00 with no booking fees, and the venue is Sidney & Matilda, Rivelin Works, 46 Sidney St, Sheffield City Centre, S1 4RH.
