Interactive workshop led by Farhana Sharmin on housing affordability, living costs and shared living, part of the ESRC Festival of Social Science.
Beyond the Front Door is an interactive workshop running at The Sheffield College on Tuesday 20 October, from 13:15 to 16:15. It's led by Farhana Sharmin, and the whole thing is built around housing, sharing and the cost of living.
Rather than a traditional presentation where you just sit and listen, this is a session that asks you to get involved. It draws on social science research to look at how our housing choices affect our wellbeing, our finances and our community life, and asks what lies beyond the front door with friends and a few surprises. The idea is to move past the lecture format: you'll be invited to discuss current housing challenges, share your own experiences and work with other people in the room to imagine more affordable, sustainable and community-focused ways of living. It's as much about talking and listening as it is about the research.
Farhana Sharmin is the one behind it, and for her, this workshop is a first step towards translating her PhD research into meaningful public engagement. It's being delivered as part of the ESRC Festival of Social Science, with funding to support its delivery. It's open to anyone aged 15 and over, so it's suitable for students as well as adults.
