Live literature night where punk performance poet Bassie Gracie reads work in progress, with an audience open mic and improv writing slam.
Bassie Gracie is the guest at Words in Progress on Thursday 22 October, at the Sheffield Plate in Orchard Square. The night is the rebranded live literature arm of The Writers Workshop, run by founder Beverley Ward, and it's taken over from the workshop's former event, Sounds About Write.
There's a set format to these nights. Each month, a literary guest reads work in progress, and they're paired with an audience open mic and an improv writing slam. Beverley Ward fronts the session and interviews the guest about their writing journey, so you get a bit of the story behind the work as well as the reading itself. The open mic slots run to five minutes each, and an 'Open Mic' ticket secures you one of those spots; if they sell out, there's a reserve list run by email.
Bassie Gracie is a punk performance poet known for musical musings, feel-good feminism and general silliness. She's often described as being found shoeless on the Monday of a music festival, telling a 70-year-old that 'punk was better in my day'.
