Half-day free workshop on public relations for cultural organisations and creative freelancers, covering press coverage, press releases and social media strategies.
Culture Sheffield are running a half-day workshop on public relations for the culture sector at The Hide on Thursday 12 November, from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm. It's aimed at cultural organisations and creative freelancers, so if you're running a small arts project or working for yourself in the city, it's right up your street.
The session covers the basics of getting media coverage: how journalists actually work and how to write a press release that gets noticed. From there it moves into the more strategic side of things — building a PR plan around specific events, handling crisis communications when things go wrong, and audience development strategies across social channels. There's one-to-one support and interactive activities running throughout the morning, and it wraps up with networking and lunch.
Facilitating the session are Ellen Beardmore and Alex Deadman, who both bring plenty of PR experience from Sheffield's own creative scene, including work with Migration Matters and Tramlines Fringe. They're not just talking from a textbook; they've done this for real in the city.
