Stand-up show 'On Edge' by Andrew Bird, who draws on childhood stories and recent anecdotes in his relaxed, improvisatory style.
Andrew Bird brings his new show On Edge to Memorial Hall, Sheffield City Hall on Thursday 18 March 2027, with the set starting at 20:00. It's a stand-up show, and the title gives you a fair idea of where it's heading: the things that keep him on edge. He lists them as global events, the struggle of finding free parking, a wife in perimenopause, two teenage kids, and even the simple task of hanging a wine-rack. It's a mix of the big picture and the small, domestic frustrations that most of us recognise.
Bird's style is relaxed and improvisatory, and he builds his sets from childhood stories and recent anecdotes. He's spent plenty of time on the road, supporting Russell Howard on his national tour — including four shows at The London Palladium — as well as Rob Brydon, Brian Regan, Michelle Wolfe, Michael McIntyre, Rhod Gilbert and Troy Hawke. He's also performed internationally, so he's well-used to working different rooms.
That reputation has carried over to the industry side of things, too. At the UK Comedy Awards he was voted Comic's Comic — Best Act, the award given by fellow comedians rather than a panel. The critics have been on a similar page: The Stage called him 'a natural comedian' and Time Out described him as 'the exciting rising star'.
