Sheffield folk trio SHOON play their own versions of traditional songs, with fingerstyle guitar and double bass, at Cafe No9.
SHOON are playing Cafe No9 on Saturday 28 November, starting at 7.00pm. They're a Sheffield folk trio rooted in the sixties British Folk Revival, and their set is built on their own interpretations of traditional songs, with the occasional contemporary or self-penned number thrown in. Most of the songs they work with are about love, murder and infidelity.
The sound comes from three distinct parts. Rebecca Hearne provides the rich vocals, Ric Booth plays intricate fingerstyle guitar, and Jonny Griff holds it down on driving double bass. They use loops and effects to add mood and colour, which also opens up room for fiddle and percussion. Booth is known as the busiest musician and producer in Sheffield, and Hearne has earned the nickname the Tyson Fury of the Yorkshire Folk Scene.
