Live session by singer-songwriter Jaimee Harris, with her album 'Boomerang Town', at Cafe No9 in Sheffield.
Jaimee Harris plays Cafe No9 on Sunday 15 November, a singer-songwriter from Texas who grew up in a small town outside Waco. She'll be performing a mix of songs written and released throughout her career, including material from her second album, Boomerang Town, a country-folk-leaning song cycle that began taking shape around 2016 after she lost several musicians close to her. The record works through themes of family, addiction and the ties that bind Americans, and Harris is a person in recovery herself.
While the songs draw on personal experience, she frames them through characters living between hope and despair. Harris turned 30 during the pandemic, a milestone that prompted her to look back at her hometown and family origins. She describes the album as nostalgic in the sense that the longing for home is a desire to return to the past and heal old wounds — nostalgia comes from the Greek nostos (return) and algos (pain).
