Live evening with folk musician Dana Robinson at Cafe No9 on Nether Edge Road.
Dana Robinson plays Cafe No9 on Friday 13 November, a solo night in Sheffield from an American guitarist who's spent a good part of his life on the road. He's the only name on the bill, so it's just him and his guitar for the evening.
Robinson's path to this stage is a long one. Born in Eugene, Oregon in 1961 and raised in the Bay Area of California, he picked up the guitar at ten. He spent his sophomore year of high school in London in 1977, a city whose punk and prog scenes left their mark, before hitchhiking across the western United States from 1979 to 1983. He eventually settled in Northampton, Massachusetts in 1984, where he cooked at The Iron Horse music club. He released his debut recording, Threshold Music, in 1986 and moved to Vermont in 1987.
From 2002 he worked as a duo with his wife, Susan; between 1995 and 2020 they recorded a dozen albums and toured over a million miles. Their music featured in Ken Burns' documentaries Our National Parks (2009) and The Dust Bowl (2012). In 2017 he became Executive Director of Cabot Arts in Central Vermont, where he founded festivals like Old-time On The Onion. This Sheffield date finds him back on the performing side of things.
