Docent-led public tour of the Seattle Asian Art Museum's Asian art collection, exploring themes of worship, clothing, nature and identity.
Journeys Through Time and Space is the public tour running at the Seattle Asian Art Museum in Volunteer Park, with a session on Sunday, November 15. It's part of the Seattle Art Museum's broader public tour program, which runs across all three SAM sites: the main Seattle Art Museum, the Seattle Asian Art Museum, and the Olympic Sculpture Park. These are docent-led walks that take about an hour, leading you through the galleries and the museum's collections around themes that change throughout the year.
The Seattle Asian Art Museum itself is an Art Deco building in Volunteer Park—it's actually where SAM began—and it houses the museum's extensive Asian art collection. This particular tour explores art from the world's largest continent, threading themes of worship and celebration, clothing and identity, nature and power, and birth and death through installations that set out the complexity and diversity of Asia. It runs alongside exhibitions like The Kondō Family: Storytellers in Clay and the ongoing Boundless: Stories of Asian Art.
