A family-focused gallery tour led by a docent with stories, sketches, songs, and activities for all ages, part of the SAM Tours program.
The Seattle Art Museum is running its Family Tour on Saturday, November 7, one of its monthly tours held on the first Saturday of the month. It's a docent-led gallery tour built for all ages, so it works as well for a toddler as it does for a teenager or a grandparent. Instead of just standing and listening, you'll find stories, sketches, songs, and activities woven throughout, meant to keep kids engaged while you walk through the galleries.
The tour is part of SAM Tours, a program that takes visitors through the museum's creatively installed galleries and artwork from its collections across three sites: the Seattle Art Museum, the Seattle Asian Art Museum, and the Olympic Sculpture Park. The tours are led by trained docents and change topics throughout the year, so the focus shifts from one month to the next.
If you're planning a full day with the kids, there's more to it than just the tour. The museum runs Family Saturdays, designed for children ages 4 to 12 and their caregivers, which include storytelling, art making, gallery tours, and movement workshops, with some Saturdays inspired by specific exhibitions. SAM also has dedicated family spaces, allows strollers and breastfeeding everywhere, and requires that children 14 and younger be accompanied by an adult.

On the money side, the Family Tour is free with museum admission. If you visit often, the Art for All membership gives you Family-level benefits for $25 a year, and a full Family membership covers two adults and all children 19 and younger, who then enter for free. On Saturday, November 7, the tour runs at 11 AM and 11:45 AM, with each one lasting about an hour. The next one is Saturday, December 5, at the same times.
