Symphonic concert by Colombian reggaeton and Latin trap singer Yandel at Viejas Arena.
Yandel plays Viejas Arena on Friday, October 30, with the show titled Yandel - SINFÓNICO. It's presented by Live Nation.
The title tells you exactly what the night is: Yandel backed by a symphony orchestra. If you're used to hearing him over reggaeton beats, this is a different setup entirely. The orchestral arrangement changes the whole feel of the songs, trading the dancefloor for a full string and brass section. It's the kind of show that works as well for someone who knows every track as it does for someone who just wants to hear his music in a new light.
Viejas Arena is on the San Diego State University campus at 5500 Canyon Crest Drive. It was formerly known as Cox Arena, and it opened to the campus and the community in July 1997. The site itself has a long history: ground was broken on March 27, 1995, on the spot of the old Aztec Bowl, which first opened on October 3, 1936, and served as the home for university sporting and cultural events through August 1994. On June 6, 1963, President John F. Kennedy delivered his commencement address there and received an honorary doctorate before a crowd of 30,000 people. The bowl was designated a historic site in November 1994, and its bleacher sections were preserved. Today the arena is home to Aztec Basketball and is known for its acoustics and sight lines.
