The Hip Hop Munchie Fest 1, with a special performance by Yamamoto Boss, bringing hip hop, food and vendors.
Yamamoto Boss headlines The Hip Hop Munchie Fest 1 at The Spot in Old Town San Diego on Sunday, October 11. It's a day built around hip hop, food and vendors, with Yamamoto Boss taking the stage for a special performance. The event is presented by Noire ENT and PaperVision along with Hustlers Mentality Records, and the organizers are still looking for up to 15 food vendors and artists to perform, so the full spread of food and music will likely keep growing as the date gets closer.
Yamamoto Boss is the stage name of Jason Hai Yamamoto, a San Diego rapper, singer and songwriter who bills himself as the first Asian American mainstream gangster rapper of 2023. He started back in 2009 with two mixtapes under We Be Hustling Records, then went on a 14-year hiatus before returning in October 2023 with the solo album Back On My Grind. That comeback also saw him found Hustler's Mentality Records, the same label presenting this show. Since then, he's kept the momentum going with the Boss Level I EP in February 2024 and the album SUMMERTIME BOSS in May 2024.
His sound is built on melodic rapping, storytelling and a soulful voice, and he's open about where he gets his cues: Lil Wayne and Nipsey Hussle on one end, Dr. Dre and 50 Cent on the other. That mix of melodic hooks and street-level storytelling is what he's been leaning into since the return.
