Post-hardcore band Wolves at the Gate perform with headliners Demon Hunter and support act Bloodlines at the House of Blues.
Wolves at the Gate play the House of Blues in San Diego on Thursday, October 15, as part of a bill that includes Demon Hunter and Bloodlines. Demon Hunter is touring their Storm the Gates of Hell 20th Anniversary Tour, so that record will be the focus of their set.
Wolves at the Gate are a post-hardcore band from Cedarville and Columbus, Ohio, who formed in 2008. The lineup is guitarist and vocalist Steve Cobucci, vocalist Colin Jones, bassist Ben Summers, guitarist Jeremy Steckel, and drummer Ben Millhouse. Before they settled on their current name, they played as Goodnight Doctor — a phrase Cobucci's father would say whenever he stubbed his toe. They eventually took the biblical name Wolves at the Gate from Acts 20:24-32.
One of their early releases was the We Are The Ones EP, put out through Solid State Records. It closed with "Oh The Depths," a track that grew out of a call for guest singers and ended up featuring more than 30 unsolicited gang vocals from fans who answered. That's the kind of thing that sticks with you about a band's early days — the way they built a community around the music before they ever hit a big stage.
